    Haven

Don’t let the velvet rope throw you. If, like me, you usually skip dining rooms that double as nightclubs, Haven might be the exception. The new restaurant, er, gastro-lounge, on the less-trodden, western stretch of Lincoln Road is fantastic. A friendly, upbeat hostess, utterly lacking in attitude, greets you. The décor, though, has attitude to spare. In the dark entry, a gentle flow of water glides over a wall of black river stones. The place looks empty, but it is early. By midnight it is packed with locals sipping smoky cocktails beneath the surprisingly flattering glow of orange light. Top dishes include exquisitely handled seafare. It’s no surprise, since executive chef Todd Erickson’s last gig was as sous chef at the stellar London import, Zuma….

    Donuts? mmm…Yummy

Neighborhood Donut Watch Mandarin Gourmet Donut Shoppe Opens Some foods are best left untranslated (see: pâté). But there’s no wrong way to describe a donut. Especially when the fried O comes from Mandarin Gourmet Donut Shoppe, a catering company and newly opened bakery in Palmetto Bay. Owner Michelle Vazquez attended — wait for it — donut school (yes!) and dreamed up a special yeast-based recipe in a variety of flavors: white chocolate, raspberry glaze, hazelnut dip, dark chocolate espresso, and dulce de leche. To make a guiltless but no less tasty ring, Vazquez uses organic ingredients and fries in palm oil. She also makes fresh baked breads(blueberry, cranberry-orange, plain baguette), tarts, cupcakes, pastries, croissants, fruit bowls, and salads. And though the bakery’s country French feel begs you to stay,…

    Yummy for Grown Ups!

Rum for Your Life Liquor Cakes by Immaculate Confections If cupcakes are the baking world’s cutesy goody two-shoes, then we’ve found the cool kid who cut PE to hang out in the parking lot. It’s a Bundt cake from Immaculate Confections. And it sure smells like it has been drinking. Vanilla Grand Marnier, dark chocolate Kahlúa, butter rum — take your pick from baker Julie Peres’s lip-smacking selection of big, fat baked-to-order treats. Drawing on recipes from her family archive, Peres amps up each cake with at least one cup of top-shelf booze (divided between the cake and glaze). Will you catch a buzz from the bittersweet chocolate bourbon or dark chocolate Chambord? More like a sugar high. Most of the alcohol burns off during baking, though…

Los chicos almuerzan en el colegio y están ellos mismo aprendiendo a elegir todos los días mejor. Si se puede! Eso digo yo la meta este ano es de come mejo y mas natural.
