His stature in the ken dining arena is sure to bring in business to Upper Manhattan. The Barcelona Bites launch begins with a grand opening on Thursday, October 1st beginning at 7:00 pm. Dyckman Beer Company is sponsoring the opening and plenty of local celebs will be on hand to support Chef Kelvin and the owners. Dyckman Beer Company’s Founder Juan Camillo says, “We’re excited to partner with Barcelona Bites as they are breaking out the space which was once solely a club to now encompass a restaurant, sports bar, beer garden and club which is huge for Upper Manhattan. When I began Dyckman Beer Company I wanted to bring craft beer to upper Manhattan which at the time was non-existent. Now we’re in over 150 locations and happy to work with the owners of Barcelona Bites. Chef Kelvin introduced us and we are excited about the opportunity,”
Fernandez is a mover and shaker in culinary circles so its no surprise how he connects those in the top of their fields from the food and beverage industry to create upscale dining in Upper Manhattan. Born In New York to Dominican parents Chef Kelvin began his career at the age of 24. He has been named one of the “30 under 30” in food and wine by Forbes magazine and was runner up on season 14 of the Food Network’s “Chopped.” He is also the youngest executive chef in New York City’s fine dining scene.
At Barcelona Bites, Fernandez introduces a menu of small plates, following the concept of refined dining in bites, along with a wine list made of Spanish grapes, French and Californian, to reflect the owners’ personal experiences as well as the Chef himself. “Barcelona Bites fills a void in the Riverdale area of New York,” says co-owner Carlos St. Hilaire. Fernandez further adds that small bites or “Tapas” enables the customer to try more items on the menu.
To capture the Latino flare a gorgeous wall mural was designed for the space by Carlos St. Hilaire and Pablo Garcia which captures the essence of Barcelona Bites. Co Owner Urbano Estevez says “unlike the previous space of Ibiza, Barcelona Bites has a full bar with 10 televisions and one projector. There are 16 beers on draft, frozen margaritas with fresh fruit purees, creative cocktails and an extensive wine list. It is a restaurant, sports bar, lounge on level 1 and on the lower level a night club/event space. A large backyard/patio with a beer garden is on hand for dining during the spring and summer season. “
