Maria Hamilton may not be a household name just yet, but she sure is designing her way up the fine jewelry ladder one divine piece at a time. Having won last year’s International Emerging Jewelry Designer of the Year Award, the Venezuelan financier-turned-designer was back again this year at Miami Beach International Fashion Week, to unveil her new collection, Evolution. The inspiration for this collection came from her affinity to nature and that fondness is manifested through each piece.
I caught up with Maria recently in Miami Beach at one of fashion’s most coveted nights – the opening night of this year’s Miami Beach International Fashion Week. There, I had the chance to preview the elegant collection and to check out her collaboration with designer Viviana Gabeiras, who showcased her 2012 spring line, Petit Pois. Not only did we chat up a storm but I was lucky enough to sport one of her necklaces for the night that she hand-picked just for me. What a treat!
Also donned in one of the pieces from the Evolution collection was Beth Sobol, President of MBIFW, who so gracefully posed for a pic showing off the necklace for our readers.
So, get this. While a big chunk of the collection is in silver, being that Maria is a sterling-silver fanatic, she also has some gold pieces available including an enchanting pair of 40-karat Ruby teardrop earrings. The entire collection is a well-balanced mix of metals and precious stones, including white sapphires and Swarovski crystals.
As for her advice to this year’s Emerging Jewelry Designer of the Year Award, “Just keep designing…and don’t stop promoting your talent”.
